Fall Watershed Festival 2011 — activites for volunteers to help restore and to learn about nature where they live.
The Creek Week Committee is scheduling volunteer planting projects for this fall. Nature walks, a landscaping class, and a watershed tour are also in the works. See the calendar for dates and watch this site for further details. All events are free. For more info contact Gregg at dcc@surewest.net

- Calling Back the Salmon

- Join us for a festive day that brings our Community, Tribes and Families together, offering a time and place on the Auburn Ravine for everyone to make a spiritual 'call' to the Salmon. Throughout the day there will be live music, informational and science booths, arts and crafts for children, fly tying and casting activities, and food and merchandise for sale. This second annual event is sponsored by SARSAS and the Wildlife Heritage Foundation.

- Come join local Naturalist Scott Dietrich for a walk through Miners Ravine and discover the rich wildlife and wildflowers that are present in this wonderful area. September is a great time to see birds and summer foliage. Expect to learn a little natural history of the local flora and fauna and enjoy a very easy walk at this splendid time of year. Suggested - hiking shoes, water, and binoculars if you have them.

- Come and learn about the wildlife in this area and see species such as White-Tailed Kites hovering over the natural grasslands or maybe Orange Crowned Warblers and Warbling Vireos foraging in the Willows. The Linda Cr. Parkway is a unique birding area because of its proximity to the nearby urban development.

- River-Friendly Landscaping is an approach to landscaping that works with nature to reduce waste, prevent pollution, and support the integrity of the water that flows from our landscapes into our waterways and the Sacramento River. This workshop will provide an introduction to the seven River-Friendly Landscaping Principles that can help you create and maintain a healthy and beautiful landscape, while saving money, conserving water, and sustaining our environment. Intro to the River-Friendly Landscaping Green Gardener at Home Training Program beginning March 20, 2012.

- This is a neighborhood project led by City of Roseville to demonstrate how creek side homeowners can use riparian plantings to help protect their property from erosion and to provide wildlife habitat.

- Dry Creek Conservancy teams with the Sacramento Tree Foundation, City of Lincoln and Lincoln Open Space Committee to plant native tree species to continue oak woodland restoration in the open space in Lincoln.
- Sunset West Revegetation Volunteer Project

- Dry Creek Conservancy teams with the Sacramento Tree Foundation and City of Rocklin to begin restoration of a tributary of Pleasant Grove Creek in the Pleasant Grove Watershed. The project will restore oak woodland in the open space by the park.

- Secret Ravine Fish Passage Project planting Volunteer Project

- This volunteer riparian planting project is part of the removal of the fish passage barrier near the mouth of Secret Ravine. The project will provide habitat for a full palette of riparian species and floodplain reconnection as well as fish passage. The project is a partnership of Dry Creek Conservancy and City of Roseville funded by a Department of Waters Resources grant obtained by Regional Water Authority.
- Kaseberg Creek Revegetation Volunteer Project

- This will be a continuation of our very successful project to restore riparian habitat with a full palette of woodland plantings in partnership with City of Roseville, Sacramento Tree Foundation, and Restoration Resources. A group will work on maintenance of existing plantings and another group will work on a planting project led by an explorer scout.

- Join with Dry Creek Conservancy, the Sacramento Tree Foundation, and Restoration Resources for woodland restoration with over 400 native trees, shrubs, and vines, including rodent protection and drip irrigation, to increase biodiversity, reduce erosion, and improve floodplain function.
- Dry Creek Watershed Tour

- Follow the leader on this self driven auto tour and hear local experts explain important features of Dry Creek Watershed including the Huff Mineral Spring and grinding rocks, the canal system used since the gold rush to deliver water to west Placer, the largest flood control facility built to prevent flooding in Roseville, Placer and Sacramento Counties, and the nature preserve with the confluence of Secret Ravine and Miners Ravine. There may be an optional trip to the mouth of Dry Creek at Steelhead Creek on its way to the Sacramento River.

- Salmon Spawning Survey Volunteer Project
- Tentative date – Friday December 2 9:00 – noon
- UA Theaters parking lot off Eureka Rd, Roseville
- RSVP at dcc@surewest.net and to check on the day chosen for the survey.
- Citizen monitors have recorded the return of these beautiful fish for fourteen years. The one day survey will be on a Friday to be chosen after seasonal rains provide enough flow for fish passage. This work requires volunteers with experience walking in creeks with waders.
- Secret Ravine Nature Hike

- Take a walk with longtime resident Terry Meinzer along the along the wonderful "boulder/alder" riparian habitat of Secret Ravine, with interesting historical facts and nature observations.
